 IMG_7866Quite simply, the first Sunday in November is the best day of the year to be in New York City.  Marathon Sunday brings out the best in New Yorkers.  The buzz in the air begins when the marathon banners are hung along Central Park South and all throughout the marathon route.  As you run through Central Park during the two weeks leading up to the big day, you can begin to feel the excitement build, as runners squeeze in their last few training runs while wearing race shirts from prior events.

Marathon Week begins on the last Sunday of October with the Poland Spring 5 miler, which is one 5 mile loop around Central Park (leaving out the dreaded Harlem Hills).  During Marathon Week, the grandstand assembly begins.  The media trucks take their positions along Central Park West.  The finish line is assembled.  Flags of over 100 countries are…
